- Walking with Hand Weights?

If you are going to reap any benefit from hand weights while walking you will need to carry at least three pounds in each hand. Is it more of a workout? Not much more at all, actually. If you’re looking to intensify your walk or to make it more challenging check out my July 13th blog about increasing pace and distance. Also consider going up and down a few inclines while you walk. With hand weights comes the charge of having to hold your shoulders, neck and back in perfect form so that they are not pulled on by the extra weight. So, unless you lift weights regularly and have built up your shoulder, neck and back muscles, I’d say skip the hand weights and start trekking up some hills!
